Monday, May 26, 2009 PUBLIC NEWS RELEASE The Lavaca County Courthouse will soon undergo a first ever complete historic restoration. It will be closed to the public for the second half of 2009 and most of 2010. For the move out of the Courthouse and into the Courthouse Annex, the Courthouse will be closed Friday, June 19, 2009 and Monday, June 22, 2009. At 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, all Courthouse offices, departments, courts and other operations will open at the Courthouse Annex (former Godwin's Grocery Store ) 412 North Texana Street (Hwy. 77 North) in Hallettsville. This is approximately 2 blocks north west of the Courthouse. During the restoration, the Texas Driver's License Office (798-5457) will be located at 318 South LaGrange Street in Hallettsville. This is 3 blocks south of the Courthouse in the former public health building. This is between the Lavaca County Office Building and the Senior Citizens' Center. Also during the restoration, the Community Action Committee (CAC) will conduct its twice monthly visits to Hallettsville at 117 East Second Street in Hallettsville. This is across the street from the north west corner of the Courthouse Square in the current County Elections office. This is a monumental and historic event. Everyone's patience, cooperation and understanding is needed and appreciated.
